TIME AND TARDIES

A student may miss up to 5 hours during a block. If a student goes over the allowed 5 hours he/she will be dropped for the block. Being up to 30 minutes late after any of the tardy bells will be counted as a tardy. If the student chooses to leave up to 30 minutes early in any segment of the day it will be counted as a tardy. If the student is more than 30 minutes late, or leaves more than 30 minutes early, it will be counted as missing the entire time of that segment of the day (see Bell Schedule). Students will be allowed 2 tardies each block. If the student gets a third tardy he/she will be dropped for the block. Students are not allowed to leave class except at break and lunch, without permission from and at the discretion of the teacher.

Students who are not in school (or have not called, in certain cases) by 9:00 a.m. on the first day of each block, will be dropped from the block and placed on the waiting list.

Any student who must leave a block because of excessive absences, tardies, or behavior problems will have to sit out the rest of that block and all of the following block before having their names added to the bottom of the waiting list. Students who are dismissed from two blocks for any reason will not be allowed to return during the school year.  Students who are dismissed for cause must pay a $25.00 re-entry fee.

Students who are absent or tardy for unusual and unavoidable reasons (as determined by the staff and administration) may be allowed to make up time and work for the block.

Students with absences totaling 5 hours will lose credit.  Missed time will be counted in ½ day increments (not hourly--see bell schedule below).  If you are more than thirty (30) minutes late it no longer counts as a tardy but as a ½ day absence. Students need to call the office by 9:00 a.m. if they are going to be absent.

Students more than 5 minutes late will be marked tardy. If a student is tardy three times, he/she will be dismissed from the block.  If, however, there is "time" left in the five hours, a teacher may opt to take the time rather than dismiss the student.

MISSING TIME

Time missed from class for doctor, dentist, court, etc., counts towards time absent. Schedule appointments after school.

Students will be given a morning break of 10 minutes and they must remain in the building. If they choose to leave any other time they will be dismissed for the block they're in and the block following. The five hours absent policy is for illness or emergency only, not for sluffing. Lunch will be 11:45 to 12:30 and they may leave campus during this time.
